A 22-year-old entrepreneur is being sued by United Airlines and its travel partner, Orbitz, for developing a website that allows users to find cheaper air fares through a method known as "hidden city," media reports said.
Aktarer Zaman, a New Yorker born in Bangladesh, opened Skiplagged.com, a website that allows people to buy a flight with a stop at the passenger's real destination, last year.
Watch the video to learn what he did and how he did it. You can support Skiplagged by donating to their legal fund here.
For example, a person looking to fly from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta could buy a ticket with a stop in Atlanta, but with a real destination of Las Vegas.
The method works only on one-way tickets, and without dispatching baggage that would end up at the final destination.
United Airlines and Orbitz call this "unfair competition" and have sued to recoup $75,000 they say they have lost to Zaman's trick.
"The 'hidden city' method has been around for some time, but it was not available easily for most consumers," Zaman told CNN Money.
