Inspiradores Latinoamericanos by Alexis Jano Ros Check it out on Mercado Libre |
Mexico’s Carlos Slim, the world’s third-richest person, and Peru’s Añaños family, makers of the popular Kola Real soft drink, are among the 14 “vocational entrepreneurs” whose humble origins are described in “Inspiradores latinoamericanos,” a book by Uruguayan researcher Alexis Jano.
These business titans do not know the term “can’t be done,” Jano told Efe, adding that their stories “shed light on key work patterns and emphasize the leaders’ steadfastness.”
Jano said one of his criteria for selecting subjects, besides their influence and business success, was to look for people whose families got through extremely difficult circumstances.
The grandparents of Colombia’s German Efromovich, chairman of the board of Avianca airlines, were killed by the Nazis in Poland and his father survived after making his way through the woods to the Soviet Union.
Slim’s father arrived in Mexico from Lebanon without baggage and unable to speak Spanish, seeking a better future in the Americas.
It took Jano months of trying before he was able to speak with the wealthiest man in Latin America.
“That is where the true story begins,” Jano said. “Not the economic story, but the immigrant’s vision that focuses only on opportunities beyond adverse situations.”
