Broadcast of event: Investment announcement by General Motors, Mexico (Gobierno de la República)
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said last week that more than 950,000 people entered a formal job since January to November, 33 percent higher than the same period last year.
During the investment announcement of US company General Motors, held at Los Pinos, the chief of the Mexican Executive said that formal employment grew 4.2 percent at annual rate, according to figures from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
He said that General Motors will invest in Mexico five billion dollars between 2013-2018, and that will generate 5,600 direct jobs at its plants and suppliers, plus a greater impact on the supply chain, in the order of 40,000 jobs.
Peña Nieto said that this will allow the consolidation of the automotive industry in Mexico, which today is the largest exporter in Latin America and occupies the eighth to seventh place as a worldwide producer.
The investment will support the operating modernization of four of its plants located in the states of Mexico, Coahuila, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi.
