Mexico is getting closer to the legalization of gaming with the approval of a draft decree to introduce the country’s first update on gambling regulations in over 60 years. A proposed draft was approved by Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies this week, and is now on its way to the Senate for final approval. Regulations were approved last week from the Government Commission, and just yesterday 297 deputies voted in favor of the bill, Ley Federal de Juegos con Apuesta y Sorteos.
The new regulations that have been under the radar as of late emphasizes the granting of operating permits for land-based and online, minimum age for gambling, and safeguards against money laundering. The reform was a cooperative process that contained the help of the government, parliaments and other associations.
