teleSUR Update: Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) has denied reports that the government payed US$16 million to Chinese consortium China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) as a compensation for canceling its contract for constructing a high-speed train in Mexico.
The Mexican government has paid a Chinese-led consortium 16 million US dollars in compensation for cancelling a high-speed train deal.
The compensation comes after the Mexican government revoked the 3.75 billion US dollar contract to build a 210-kilomter rail link.
The contract had been awarded to China Railway Construction Corporation and its Mexican partners.
However, the Mexican government then abruptly annulled the deal over public concerns about the bidding process.
China Railway Construction Corporation is still planning to bid again for the project.
