Need a ride? There's an app for that! Insurance Journal's Mitch Dunford recently tried Uber, a car service which connects passengers with drivers in most major cities with the ease of a mobile phone. Uber Technologies Inc. is teaming up billionaire Carlos Slim to help the car-booking app reach more consumers’ mobile phones in Latin America.
Slim’s America Movil SAB, whose Telcel service has seven out of 10 mobile-phone users in Mexico, will feature the app on all Android phones in the country, Uber said in a blog post. The partnership will extend across Latin America in the coming months. Since the startup began operating last year in Mexico, Latin America’s markets have become some of the fastest-growing for the car service, Uber said.
“This partnership is the next big step for our growth in Latin America and will serve as a model across other regions in the world,” Uber said in the post today. The company has rolled out its car-booking services to more than 220 cities worldwide.
