A group of Central American mothers will make their annual long journey through Mexico in search for the hundreds of children who have gone missing in their quest to reach the United States.
As they have done for the last nine years, Central American women whose children have disappeared in Mexico while travelling to United States will begin their road trip on Wednesday of hundreds of kilometers to look for thier children.
The so-called “Central American Caravan” will start in Guatemala, then travel by bus through 10 Mexican states.
The group is made up of 20 Hondurans, 15 Salvadorans, 5 Nicaraguans and 8 Guatemalans.
“Non official data reveals that between 70,000 and 150,000 Central Americans have disappeared and several of the routes used by the migrants are being searched for in shelters, hospitals and prisons,” says a press release by the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement, the advocacy group that organizes the caravan.
The group also denounced the incompetence of the Mexican authorities and their links to organized crime that “have made juciy profits out of migrants.”
