Mexico’s government has announced that members of the drug cartel Guerrero Unidos reportedly confessed to murdering over 40 young people taken from a protest in the town of Iguala, before incinerating their bodies and disposing of their remains in a river.

The parents of the students, who have staged protests throughout the country, say they refuse to accept the government’s statement without convincing proof. They claim the government’s statement is a lame attempt to put the scandal to bed, and that the authorities’ behavior has only made the scandal worse. The parents are refusing to accept to unsubstantiated claim, vowing not to allow the authorities to put this scandal to bed without definitive proof.
