MEXICO CITY – About 300 people, including relatives of military personnel and victims of organized crime groups, staged a march in Mexico City to demand that the soldiers linked to the killings of 22 civilians last June receive a fair trial.

“We do not want them released, but we want them to get a transparent trial, that their rights be guaranteed and that an extensive investigation be done,” Humanitarian Organization for Social Development (OHDS) president Ana Lucia Zavala told Efe.

Zavala and her non-governmental organization organized the weekend march in the capital via Twitter and Facebook.

The demonstrators, some of whom covered their faces, protested the arrests of eight soldiers in connection with the June 30 killings of the civilians in Tlatlaya, a city in Mexico state, which surrounds the Federal District and forms part of the Mexico City metropolitan area.

...Mexican and foreign human rights groups demanded that the federal government conduct a thorough investigation of what appears to be an extrajudicial killing by the army.
