The #FrackWaterChallenge (Food & Water Watch)

Fracking fuels global warming say the fractivists that took to the streets worldwide on October 11, 2014. Washington D.C. based Food & Water Watch organized the coalition of the hundreds of groups including additional International groups as 350.org, Leave it in the Ground Coalition, and Oil Change; and including domestic and localized groups such as Americans Against Fracking, and New Yorkers Against Fracking, amongst the growing list of over 250 events registered at its site and hash tag on twitter: #globalfrackdown.

"This is the 3rd global frackdown since 2012 and this one is a little bigger than the two previous," responded National Organizing Director Mark Schlossberg. To further, he cited,"a new Pew poll published this week in Maryland showed strong plurality that those who understand what fracking is, did not support it."Tweets reporting events have come from France, Canada, Mexico, and many across the USA.

Additionally Schlossberg reported that 77% of all fracking to the surprise of many, is actually for oil, another finite resource for which now even the Rockefeller's are divesting from and even billionaires Warren Buffet, and Tom Steyer, not to mention the largest private bank in the world, UBS 's recent announcement to encourage investors to divest from fossil fuels; despite the percentage of energy in the USA from natural gas consumed rising to 40 percent, and the International Energy Agency projections that the United States will displace Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer by 2015.

Food & Water Watch was among the first of many groups to call for an outright ban on fracking when many other organizations were debating regulations," Schlossberg expressed as a matter of fact, "but now given there is consensus based upon over 150 studies in the last 2 years showing burning methane from fracked gas (natural gas), is beginning to be recognized as a much greater driver of global warming than originally thought."
