Mexican wages are not enough to get by, which causes citizens to have difficulty covering their expenses. This is the opinion of 74% of those surveyed by the Mexican research and analysis enterprise Parametría in its latest survey, in which it reveals that in Mexico City they believe something similar: six in 10 of those who live in the capital (63%) deem that the salary they receive is insufficient.

…Of the total number of Mexicans in areas other than the Capital (74%) who answered that their salary is insufficient, 48% highlighted that they also have trouble even surviving, and two in 10 (26%) claimed to struggle greatly. In Mexico City, 47% of citizens believe that their salary is not enough and they have problems covering their expenses, whereas 16% said their salary was inadequate and they struggle greatly to survive, which gives a total of 63%.

Parametría’s study reflects the very low percentage of those surveyed who said that their salary was enough and even allows them to save: 3% nationally and 5% in Mexico City. Furthermore, in both cases, the number of participants who answered that their salary was sufficient, in the grand scheme of things and without major complications, does not surpass 35%.

In Mexico, the minimum salary is divided into two areas, according to the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI). In the first, Geographic Area “A”, the minimum wage is 67.29 pesos per day (roughly US$5.00), and encompasses Mexico City, Baja California and Baja California Sur in its entirety, as well as municipalities of different states such as Sonora, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Guerrero and Veracruz. In Geographic Area “B”, which includes the rest of the states in the country, on top of the municipalities not covered in the first area, the salary is 63.77 pesos (US$4.74).
