Cristina Frie and Dirk Meyer: making amends (Margarita Rojas)
Two foreigners who participated in the looting in Los Cabos during the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Odile returned this week to pay for the goods they stole.
Cristina Frie and Dirk Meyer were among those who helped themselves to goods in the Costco store on September 17. According to one report, they turned up to make amends after a video began circulating online in which the two could be seen looting the store.
Among the items they took were a flat-screen television and a kayak. Yesterday they delivered receipts for two bank deposits they had made to cover the cost of the goods, a total of just over 30,000 pesos.
The couple said on their Facebook page they had under-estimated the power of social media, and so decided to “make amends for their error.”
It’s not known if the District Attorney has opened an investigation into the case or if Costco has pardoned the two for their act.
