Mexican politician and businesswoman Yeidckol Polevnsky, from the left-wing party Movimiento Regeneracion Nacional (Morena), called today for the immediate release of the Cuban fighters that remain imprisoned in US jails.
Polevnsky told the Prensa Latina news agency that over the years in the Mexican Congress agreement issues have been presented claiming a fair trial in the case of the Cuban Five and the release of these heroes.
"I would like to ask Mexican congresspeople and Government to tell us what has been the process and answer of the United States to that claim", said Polevnsky.
Known as The Five, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were arrested in the United States 16 years ago, for warning about violent actions that anti-Cuban groups were preparing against Cuba, and then went to rigged and arbitrary trials.
