Montel Williams is begging the government for help on behalf of a marine who has been kept in Mexican custody for the past six months.

The talk show host appeared before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday to ask for help in freeing Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who was arrested in March after crossing the California-Mexico border carrying weapons in his vehicle.

Williams, a former marine himself, made an impassioned call for the White House to intervene.

"If this hearing's going to stop in the next 10 minutes," Williams stated, "I think the president needs to pick up the phone in 15."

The soldier's mother, Jill Tahmooressi, testified Wednesday that her son was suffering from post-traumatic-stress disorder. She went on to say that he had been unable to receive PTSD treatment, and as a result, had attempted suicide shortly after he was first imprisoned.

In the video above, the Hollywood star urges America's chief executive to reach out to Mexican President Nieto for any assistance.
