On Sunday authorities and family members began the search for 58 missing students, following attacks from police and armed assailants on students who were protesting the underfunding of their school.
On Friday night, three students — Daniel Solis Gallardo, Julio Cèsar Mondragòn Frontes and Aldo Gutiérrez Solano — were shot dead by police and unidentified armed men after students seized a bus as a form of civil disobedience against the discrepancies in school funding in the state of Guerrero.
The students attended the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School in the municipality of Iguala.
Another two members of the Avispones soccer team and their bus driver were also killed.
Families of the victims are demanding the resignation of the Mayor of Iguala, José Luis Abarca Velázquez as well as the Governor of Guerrero, Ángel Aguirre Rivero in addition to an immediate, independent investigation into the events that led to the killings.
Twenty-two police officers suspected have been taken into custory and transferred to Acapulco, said Guerrero's Attorney General.
