This movie shows how Mars One plans to establish a human settlement on Mars. (MarsOneProject)
Kiss your dog or significant other good-bye. You’re not coming back. You’ll never see blue sky, trees, feel the wind in your face or the sand between your toes at the beach. You’re going to Mars and you’re going to stay there till you die. Can you, would you do it? Over 200,000 eager spacefarers have already said they would. They’ve applied to the non-profit Mars One Foundation in hopes of joining the bold pioneers who will set up a Mars colony starting in 2023. Bon voyage.
As you can imagine, the interview process for selecting candidates for the non-return trip to the Red Planet is quite exhaustive. The Mars One selection committee is pulling out the stops to find candidates who have the knowledge, intelligence, adaptability and personality to not only survive the rest of their lives on an alien planet, but be useful members of a team. Mars One has already narrowed down the original pool of over 200,000 applicants to 418 men and 287 women. Each had to provide a medical statement of health from their physician and open their Mars One applicant profile to the public. A round of personal interviews will narrow the field down even more.
