MEXICO CITY – The PRD, Citizens Movement and Labor Party deputies along with representatives of various social organizations demanded in front of the Chamber of Deputies this week that National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) President Raúl Plascencia Villanueva be investigated by federal authorities for alleged abuses of power and failure to diminish crime rates.

The legislators and representatives accused Plascencia of extremely serious oversights and actions in which he used his position in a divisive manner to make political gains against political rivals.

Additionally, supporters of the investigation against the commission president launched the #NoMorePlascencia campaign to drum up support so that the ombudsman isn’t reelected to his role in the Mexican Senate.

Citizens Movement Vice Coordinator Ricardo Mejía Berdeja said that Plascencia is morally and professionally unqualified to continue as president of the CNDH.
