Some major resorts in Los Cabos, slammed by Hurricane Odile, won’t reopen until at least the end of October. That’s prompting airlines, including Alaska Airlines which is a major carrier from Seattle and California to the Mexican resort, to extend no-penalty change fees.
Alaska passengers who had flights booked from Sept. 14 to Nov. 20 can get a full refund with no fee. Or they can rebook, in certain time periods, with no penalties. Alaska also has extended the no-fee changes to other Mexican cities after the hurricane caused extensive damage Sunday night.
Here’s the word from Alaska:
“We will waive the change fees and the difference in the price of your ticket, if your new travel is booked in the same cabin. This applies to flights to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guadalajara, or Mexico City completed on or before December 20, 2014.”
The airline added: “If you would like to rebook your trip and travel after December 20, 2014, we will waive the change fees only for travel to Los Cabos through August 1, 2015. Tickets must be exchanged or refunded by August 1, 2015.”
