Most people who commit suicide in Mexico are unemployed youth, it was reported here on the occasion of the World Day for Prevention of Suicide.
About 79.6 percent of suicides occur among men aged 15-24 years who are unemployed, and adults older than 45 years, as a solution to their problems.
So says a study by the firm Eli Lilly, adding that conditions like depression and lack of timely treatment are important factors that influence suicide rates in the country.
The statement issued by Eli Lilly says that suicide is one of the 10 leading causes of death in adolescents and young adults in Mexico, so authorities and companies should join forces to address this public health problem.
