Islamic State terrorists have crossed from Mexico into the US, claims former CIA officer and author Robert Baer. Although a significant national security concern if true, some such as Sara Flounders of the International Action Center say statements like these are just more fear mongering. The peace activist believes many of the recent claims surrounding the jihadist group are reminiscent of those from the original “War on Terror,” and we should keep our guards up against the fear tactics used by the government and the media. ISIS-linked terrorists slipping into the United States from Mexico? Not high on security officials’ worry list.

They’re far more concerned about jihadists entering the U.S. legally by airplane.

Administration higher-ups testifying during a House hearing that there is not evidence to support scary border scenarios cited by conservatives such as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

"We don't have any credible information, that we are aware of, of known or suspected terrorists coming across the border," said Jennifer Lasley, a senior official in the DHS' intelligence and analysis office, told the House Homeland Security border security subcommittee Wednesday.

She was responding to Rep. Jeff Duncan, a South Carolina Republican, who like, Cruz, argued ISIS may exploit lax security on the U.S.-Mexico border. Texas Gov. Rick Perry has said ISIS terrorists may already have crossed the border.

Administration officials at the hearing, which focused on ISIS fighters who hold western passports, said it is far more likely a militant sympathetic to the group will try to enter the country by air.
