Science (kind of) confirms that yes, women do want to hook up on vacation — provided you’re not a jerk about it. (GapYear.com)

Because apparently even science is eternally concerned with what women choose to do with their ladyparts, researchers Liza Berdychevsky, Heather Gibson and Yaniv Poria wanted to find out more about the relationship between sexual risk-taking and tourism among women. The study is super small, only 34 women (21 from Israel, 13 from the U.S.), and it was conducted in a subjective interview format. They found that women do tend to experiment sexually when traveling — but it's not without its pitfalls.

“Tourism spaces — not only geographically but perceptually as well — are often different in many respects from the everyday routine,” said Berdychevsky. “Sometimes it is that sense of anonymity and that sense of detachment that enables women to leave behind some of their social baggage, statuses, roles, worries and caring responsibilities. Even not having your phone or laptop computer on you often results in a different state of mind.”

Even in sexually liberated settings and destinations (like spring break), sexual double standards and old-world sexual mores still exist — if you’re a woman, the easiest way to ignore them is to go where nobody knows your name.
