Frontera Official Trailer - Ed Harris, Eva Longoria, Michael Peña (MOVIECLIPS Trailers)

Immigration issues are front and center in the engaging contemporary Western Frontera. No polemic, it's a poignant tale of human decency and redemption.

Frontera, the Spanish word for border, is set on the area between Arizona and Mexico and traces the intersecting lives of Mexican family man Miguel (Michael Peña) and his wife, Paulina (Eva Longoria), and retired American sheriff Roy (Ed Harris) and his beloved equestrian wife, Olivia (Amy Madigan).

Peña is a standout, and Longoria is a revelation as the vulnerable, pregnant Paulina. Hers is a decidedly un-glamorous part and Longoria compellingly fleshes out an under-written role.

Equally impressive is Harris as a rugged rancher in his 60s. Harris' terse speech and weathered countenance ideally suits the curmudgeonly cowboy role. Madigan is down to earth and convincing. Their performances give the story, told in English and Spanish, substantial heft.

Stunning cinematography gives Frontera the feel of an old-school Western, aided by a soundtrack that blends subtle Latin melodies with a classic American score.
