Mexico's Transformational Reforms in Energy, Telecom, Tax, Labor, Education and Transparency (Mexico)

Once upon a time, a country anxiously awaited the 'political message' from the President of the Republic on the day of his Second Annual Report. Such a speech contained, or so it was hoped, keys to the immediate future and important announcements that merited being saved for the occasion.

President Enrique Peña Nieto's message came as a surprise: without our realizing it, without the knowledge of either the 50 million poor or the hundreds of thousands of victims of insecurity and violence, Mexico has already changed; it's already a different country.

The President affirms and provides numbers that his critics will question. So it is, and so it will be. Political forces usually get involved around the Presidential Report in an unequal duel of arguments and statistics before which the citizen must exercise an act of faith. That is, if it were not for the reality of everyday life.

The nearly three minutes of applause that Peña Nieto received makes clear that not everything is novelty: this is still the President's Day...
