Last week, Father Alejandro Solalinde and human rights defenders demanded the total ceasing of operations targeting the detention and “hunting of migrant boys and girls” that the Federal Police (PF) are carrying out along the south frontier of the country. They pointed out that, with the pretext of providing security to the minors, deportations and repression are taking place.
Clergymen and the participants in the Day of Fasting and Prayer for Migrant Children offered a press conference outside of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations to announce that “some agreements” were reached with the agency’s authorities, including the documentation of irregularities committed against migrant children within the country’s borders.
However, they considered the agreements with the secretariat to be “partial and insufficient”, so they determined to move the encampment for their fast to the National Migration Institute (INM), where they’ll demand an answer to the crisis this exodus of children is causing.
Solalinde stated that while the undocumented children are locked up, closed-off from the outside world and not given humanitarian care, the decision-makers of the country have “shut their eyes and hearts” to this issue, and the destiny and suffering of thousand of children seems to not bother them in the slightest.
