Torture is a daily occurrence in Mexico, and the government security agencies resort to this to a great extent, say 85 out of 100 questioned by the Strategic Communication Cabinet (GCE), in a scenario in which more than 70% of the people think that the police are those who mostly used torture.

In a public opinion survey on support for victims of torture, GCE investigated how informed was society regarding what Amnesty International reported that in 2012, the National Commission on Human Rights received 1,662 complaints of torture and mistreatment, with no one being jailed.

Two-thirds of the 800 people interviewed by telephone throughout the country said that they were unaware of this report, and the other third were aware of it. In spite of the lack on knowledge of the claims of violations of individual guarantees, an overwhelming 90% of Mexicans told GCE they were aware of the existence of cases of torture in Mexico.
