Fusion's Jorge Ramos travels to Laredo, TX to see firsthand how migrants cross into the U.S. from Mexico. Guided by Border Patrol agents on horses, boats, and trucks, Ramos gets a tour of the dangerous Rio Grande River to better understand the threats migrants face when crossing the border. Border Patrol agents explain why the river can mean a death sentence for adults and children who embark on this journey.

Many Central American and Mexican migrants get to the U.S. by swimming across the Rio Grande River. Many don't survive the river's strong undercurrent, and if they do, many then fall victim to dehydration navigating the scorching hot desert in search of a border town. To get a feel for the treacherous conditions thousands of migrants face, Ramos decided to swim the river.
