For the "savior" of the regime who lived the Mexican Moment, the surveys that have spread everywhere on the performance of Enrique Peña Nieto’s government are very negative.

Twenty months after taking office and facing the completion of the energy reform, citizen disenchantment with the Peña administration is so high that some analysts are already calling it “the Peña defect.”

Disenchantment is what marks the citizens. It does not matter whether they are for or against structural reforms. Peña’s reformism is not even mobilizing its own allies. Not even in the United States are they reading favorable reports such as those that were promoted during Carlos Salinas’s presidency [1988-94], when this cycle of dismantling the State began.

Surveys by the newspapers Reforma and Buendía-El Universal as well as companies Parametría and GEA-ISA are very clear: The government rating of Peña Nieto is less than 6 [out of 10]. Over 50% of respondents have a negative view of the economy; over 65% believe that energy reform will not lower prices of electricity or gasoline; and over 60% have negative feelings regarding the violence and fighting corruption.

Of the structural reforms, it turns out that the ones that matter least to citizens and receive the least favorable opinions were also the most complex and controversial: the telecommunications and energy reforms.
