Criminals will be prosecuted to the full force of the law, but it is not the only way to combat violence, said the Government Secretary Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong in Tecámac.
“If we think that we should only act so that people take notice, then we would be a bad government. It is necessary to address the root causes of crime and violence in our society. Mexico today is experiencing a major transformation not only through reforms that create better circumstances but, also, through initiatives that are implemented independently,” he said.
“The government of Mexico works with structural reforms and with specific initiatives that will build a better society,” said Osorio when leading the initiation of activities of the Tribunal for the Treatment of Addictions.
“The policy of addiction prevention intends to visit and assist every house with a disintegrated family in order to learn where the social fabric is broken and why there is violence. Once these factors are identified the intention is to assist the victims,” said Osorio accompanied by the governor of the State of Mexico, Eruviel Ávila Villegas.
“The new program will not treat them as criminals by incarcerating them for a few years and releasing them still as addicts and criminals. Now they are treated, cared for and educated so that they can take the right direction and transform,” he said.
The official has also inaugurated the Center of Confidence Control in Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
