The leaders of the parties of the Left who promote its division for personal reasons or for those of a particular group are laying the foundation for the Left’s collapse. The party members who support the factious confrontation, hoping that their group will be the one that ends up with the upper hand and thereby gain benefits for itself, without caring about the luck of the Left as a whole, tacitly accept its collapse and sometimes even accelerate it.

Recent months have been months of defeat for the Left. The PRD did not manage to capitalize on its participation in the Pact for Mexico. The tax reform that they promoted together with the PRI provoked strong criticism and, up until now, it has had poor results; the energy reform, which the Left in its entirety opposed, was not only approved, but the popular demonstrations convened by progressive leaders were not even a shadow of those held in 2008, even though the 2013 reform was much more radical than that in 2008.

Against this background, the leaders of the Left, instead of uniting forces to gain weight as opposition, head governments that give results and gain strength for the elections in 2015, insist on stirring up conflicts between themselves, bringing the fragmentation of the Left to a new level with the imminent creation of MORENA [Movement for National Regeneration] and, as a consequence, it will arrive at the 2015 elections more divided than it has ever been in the last decades.
