Mexico's self-proclaimed 'Grand Warlock' gave his 2014 World Cup predictions in Mexico City last week, foreseeing victory for Brazil, strong form from Ronaldo and disappointment for Messi.
Antonio Vazquez, known as Mexico's 'Brujo Mayor' or 'Grand Warlock' told Reuters that he predicted Brazil would win the World Cup in a grand final against Holland.
"The final will be won by Brazil, which is what I have been saying since last year. Probably the final, it is most probable, that the final will be against Holland but Brazil will win because it's (Latin) America for the (Latin) Americans," he said.
Latin American teams have clinched nine out of 19 World Cups. Brazil are favorites to nab their sixth title with Lionel Messi's Argentina another favorite to win their third.
But Vazquez predicts economic and social woes at home will see Argentina struggle in the FIFA tournament.
"I don't think Argentina (will win), I feel that there is a problem at the moment with the Argentinians. Their self-esteem is very low and there are lots and lots of economic, social and religious problems at the moment in the country so I don't think that they will be able to get very far. Out of the Latin teams, I have two possibilities, it could be; Uruguay who don't make a lot of noise and is always a good player at international level and; Chile, who are working very comfortably because it is a country that is growing and it has high levels of morale. But in the end, Brazil is going to win the World Cup 2014," he added.
With just days left until kick off in Brazil, all eyes will be Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi to see if the soccer superstars can lift their countries to World Cup glory.
Following Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or win this year, Vazquez predicts the Portuguese forward will shine in Brazil while Messi fumbles.
"(Cristiano) Ronaldo could be the best player. His cards come out the best for me. With (Lionel) Messi, I can see family or critical problems, severely critical problems, which will go against him. At best, he won't be able to withstand the weight of this problem. For that reason, I think that things are going to go better for Ronaldo. He is going to be one of the leaders, one of the heroes, of 2014," said Vazquez.
Mexico's "Grand Warlock" had good news for the local side, predicting the Mexican team will make it through to the second round of the World Cup.
"Yes, there is a possibility that Mexico will win easily against Cameroon and there is a possibility that they will win against Croatia with a very small margin or draw, but even if this happens, Mexico will go through to the next round. We also have to look at the points, the mathematics of each teams goals but I think that we already have the fourth match in the bag," he predicted.
Mexico has traditionally failed to live up to expectations at the World Cup given the soccer-crazy country of 100 million has one of the richest domestic leagues in the world. The national team have failed to reach the last eight in the last five tournaments they have competed in since missing out altogether at Italia '90, the last time they failed to compete.
The Warlock has warned that his predictions are not definitive, saying that any of his forecasts could be counter-acted or totally changed with magic spells, prayers or by people taking actions or changing attitudes to prevent them.
Vazquez has a long history of making predictions and discussing esotericism, having first been broadcast on television in the 1960s.
