The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) will enhance the capacity of the Office of Forensic Services through the acquisition of over 100 mobile labs. Civil servants from the Criminal Investigation Agency said that they will be able to carry out different forensic specialties and the labs will be distributed in local offices of the PRG throughout the country. The purchase was approved last year, and the first dozens labs, which are set up in pick-up trucks, have been already provided to the PGR.
The expansion of the Forensic Services is part of a strategy that strives to achieve the growth and strengthening of the PGR for when the new system of penal justice [with public, oral, adversarial trials in which evidence is presented] enters into force in 2016. The labs will be important since every criminal act in a legal proceeding has to be proved through solid forensic evidence, so as to demonstrate the responsibility of the accused.
