Mexican farmers demonstrated today outside the Interior Ministry to demand a true dialogue on the land reform being prepared by the federal government.
Thousands of protesters arrived at the building yesterday and expected to keep demonstrating at least until tomorrow, in order to get Interior and Finance ministries authorities included in the negotiations of the initiative.
Protesters have warned that they will not allow the privatization of cooperatives and communities and will fight against the expansion of mines and wind power companies, as well as against growing genetically modified corn.
They also demand not concentrating resources on a few producers and extending the benefits of the budget to the 80 percent of farmers who bring crops to market.
Farmers have come to the capital to fight for their lands and families and have taken the streets to make the population aware of their demands, they said through megaphones.
Protesters argue that it is vital to set up a rural development bank and a market regulation framework, thus it is necessary to negotiate with representatives from the Finance and Economy ministries. However they have not met with officials from these ministries.
