This Saturday a human chain against the Telecommunications Act proposed by President Enrique Peña Nieto was realized. Elements of the Presidential Guard prevented the demonstration from reaching Los Pinos [The Pines the presidential residence], so it went from the Calzada Chivatito, just steps from the National Theater [in Chapultepec Park] and extended via Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Chapultepec to Televisa. "Do not mess with my webs", "! Mexico without PRI" were some of the cries of the participants, many of them young people.
The chain was led by Javier Corral of PAN and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas of PRD. The latter celebrated that the discussion of telecommunications laws was being extended until June, so there will be a deeper debate. Poet Javier Sicilia, leader of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, and political scientist Denise Dresser also attended the rally.
