The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) has reported that there are more than two million domestic workers in México.
The INEGI report stated that 9 out of 10 domestic workers are women and the average age was 40 years. Of these, 34.6 percent receive the minimum wage while about 7.4 percent live in homes where they work.
It also pointed out that 13 percent of the country’s domestic workers work more than 48 hours a week, but only 2 percent have access to health benefits as part of the employment.
