Residents of Mexico City and surrounding cities in the state of Mexico picketed offices of the Attorney General (PGR) to demand the release of Hipólito Mora, leader of the self-defense groups operating in the state of Michoacan.

The protesters responded to a call launched by the Valor por Michoacán [Courage for Michoacán] Facebook page. For several hours, they planted themselves before the doors of the facilities of the Deputy Attorney for Specialized Investigation of Organized Crime (SEIDO) on Reforma Boulevard.

With placards in hand, they asked the federal government to ''stop manufacturing crimes against self-defense members'' in Michoacán, since supposedly there are several ongoing investigations that could end with the apprehension - ''based on the fabrication of crimes'' - of several leaders and members of civil society groups that emerged to fight the members of The Knights Templar cartel.

At the demonstration, banners and signs were carried that read: "With the Right to Defend Ourselves!"
