Bullring Transformed Into Stunt Playground for X-Fighters (ITN)

Mexico City's Bullring by the Sea was transformed into a stunt jump palace on Friday as the first round of Red Bull's 2014 X-Fighter series came to town.

The Monumental Plaza del Toros was filled with beaten earth slopes and hills for the invitational event where some the best freestyle motocross riders in the world compete to show off their stunts.

Historically the competition has often been held in bullfighting rings and often takes on some of the spectacle and pomp of traditional corridas or bullfights.

In Mexico City that meant that the riders came out through the tunnels built to allow the bulls to enter and they were greated by fanfares.

The competition was a close run thing between Australia's Josh Sheehan and Levi Sherwood of New Zealand.

In the end it was Sherwood who triumphed, but that all could change when the competition moves to Osaka in Japan on May 25.
