Mexico is the member country of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with the second lowest income and degree of inequality. However, Mexicans report greater personal well-being than the average recorded of other OECD countries.

In an OECD study called "How's Life 2013," Mexico is listed as the country with the second lowest household income per capita at $10,216 per year, just above Chile's $9,843 but less than half the $20,882 average recorded for 31 OECD countries.

The OECD also reports that Mexico is the OECD country with the second greatest economic inequality according to the Gini index, in which number range between 0 and 1, with 0 being perfect equality and 1 the highest possible inequality.
