According to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) during 2013 cash deposits of Mexicans in financial institutions outside of the country stood at $27.239 billion, an increase of 334 percent over the $6.294 billion reported in 2012.
Banxico said the total assets of Mexicans abroad amounted to $39.301 billion 2013, which was comprised of $9.967 billion in direct investments, $2.095 billion in investment portfolios, and the remainder, $27.239 billion in cash deposits. Total investments abroad for 2013 was up $2.062 billion over 2012.
