MEXICO CITY - Yesterday morning self-defense groups and residents seized the Municipal Headquarters of Apatzingán, Michoacán, where they demand the dismissal of Mayor Uriel Chávez Mendoza, whom they accuse of having links to The Knights Templar.

To avoid a confrontation between the self-defense forces and a group of people who support the mayor, the self-defense groups entered the building accompanied by members of the Federal Police. After the self-defense groups began to show signs of definitively occupying the headquarters, city employees closed their offices.

The protesters demand the resignation of corrupt officials and placed a banner in front of the municipal headquarters saying: "Uriel: Give us the 300 disappeared people that your municipal police seized, or tell us where they are so we can give them a Christian burial. Resign now!"
