The Chamber of Deputies approved, with changes, the Senate’s version of the Federal Administrative Responsibilities for Public Servants Law on Thursday. It aims to provide citizens with more effective channels of denouncing corruption or failure of government officials to fulfill their duties.

The approved bill specifies that, even though citizen complaints will be anonymous, authorities will have to fully investigate the authenticity of all claims and evidence before proceeding with the corresponding administrative process.

It also says that government officials are obligated to refrain from keeping citizens from making denouncements, and that they must be allowed to lodge their formal complaints in an anonymous manner with all appropriate information to implicate the accused.
