MEXICO CITY – Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, leader of the leftist National Regeneration Movement (Morena), told supporters over the weekend that his movement would be Mexico’s dominant political party in 2015.

The former Mexico City mayor delivered an address Sunday to Morena’s constitutional assembly, whose delegates approved the declaration of principles, statutes and platform.

“We are not going to sit around waiting for the notification from the IFE (Federal Electoral Institute),” Lopez Obrador said.

“It is a fact, a reality, that Morena is a political party and we have to start preparing ourselves to participate in next year’s elections. Morena will be the country’s top political party in 2015,” the politician said.
