Grupo Viva Aerobus SAB filed for what would be Mexico’s second initial public offering of shares by an airline since September as passenger traffic sets annual records.
The low-cost carrier said it hired Barclays Plc, Grupo Financiero Banorte SAB and HSBC Holdings Plc to handle the IPO. The company’s filing today with Mexico’s stock exchange didn’t give a date or potential size of the transaction.
The share-sale plan by Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s fourth-largest airline by passengers, follows the carrier’s $5.1 billion order in October for 52 Airbus SAS A320 jets, as well as an IPO four months ago by competitor Volaris. Mexico’s air passenger traffic climbed 8.2 percent in last year’s first 11 months after reaching a record 56.8 million in 2012.
