The online travel site, Travelzoo, says searches for warm weather destinations are off-the-charts.
Sr. Editor Gabe Saglie said, “Southern California, we're seeing year-over-year search increases by more than 100 percent, Mexico, up 300 percent and similar numbers are coming for searches in Hawaii and in Florida."
Because of the financial hangover of the holidays, leisure travel typically drops off in January.
Saglie said, "The heightened demand and interests in warmer weather travel I think is starting to generate some pretty good deals."
Sr. Editor of Orbitz, Jeanenne Tornatore said, “For people that are looking for a warm weather getaway, a lot of people are going to be looking at the Caribbean and Mexico"
Those are two locations with lots of rooms likely to have a lot of vacancies, even at all-inclusive resorts.
Tornatore said, "That includes all of your food, typically all of your drinks and some activities as well."
With winter this brutal so far, travel sites and agencies across the country are reporting brisk business.
