I am pleased to have the opportunity to talk to you. The beginning of this year is a good opportunity to share our progress, what we have achieved and what is next for Mexico.

2013 was the year of great reforms. That is what we proposed at the beginning and the good news is that we did it.

Thanks to the work and efforts of many people, especially lawmakers, all Mexicans have taken a great step towards moving and transforming Mexico.

We can be proud, because Mexican’s ability and audacity to change has been recognized internationally.

But I want to make it quite clear that these reforms are just a starting point. From here, the priority is to work, make an effort and build together.

In 2014, we must implement secondary laws and begin implementing reforms so that their benefits will increase every year, for the benefit of all families.

What benefits do I mean?

For our children and young people to receive higher quality education;

For everyone over 65 to have a pension;

For workers to have unemployment benefits, for the first time ever;

For there to be more investment to create higher-paying jobs;

For small businesses and entrepreneurs to have more and cheaper credits;

And for Mexico to have a cleaner environment and more energy;

In this respect, I would like to highlight a key issue: petroleum belongs and will continue to belong to Mexicans. As state enterprises, PEMEX and the Federal Electricity Commission will be able to make a greater contribution to the country’s development.

As you can tell, Mexico has a clear direction and is already moving.

The start of every year is a source of encouragement and hope, but this time, I invite you to maintain this spirit throughout the year, because in 2014, there are real conditions in place for the Mexican economy to do better and grow.

Let us take advantage of this opportunity.

I wish you all the best, because this is how, together, we will make 2014 a great year for Mexico.

Congratulations.
