The Palm Cabaret, Puerto Vallarta’s original and longest-running cabaret and theatre space, presents Come Fly with Me – Brian De Lorenzo Celebrates Sinatra at 100 tribute concert with Jean-Guy Comeau on Friday, December 4 and Sunday, December 6, at 7:00 pm. The show’s tour continues following performances in Boston and New York City.
Brian De Lorenzo, Talent America’s 2001 “Performer of the Year” offers Come Fly with Me, an original tribute show hailing one of the greatest singers of the American Songbook, Frank Sinatra, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Sinatra’s birth. De Lorenzo whisks the audience through Sinatra’s Songbook with stops in Rome, Paris, and Bombay. Accompanied by Jean-Guy Comeau on piano, expect to hear a sly mix of swing and romance featuring fresh arrangements of ‘Old Blue Eyes’ best tunes including “Fools Rush In,” “The Best Is Yet to Come,” Luck Be a Lady,” and of course “Come Fly with Me.” De Lorenzo delivers anecdotes about Sinatra, interwoven with commentary on how the Great American Songbook and Sinatra’s contributions inspired and touched his own life and musical career.
Chet Williamson of Worcester Magazine appreciates his gift, “When a singer has a voice like Brian De Lorenzo, musicians like to say, ‘He is a songwriter’s best friend.’ He has one of those rare voices that make first-time listeners stop and say, ‘Who is that?’”
Garnering admirable critical acclaim, De Lorenzo has been nominated three times for the “Best Cabaret Show” Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Award. He is frequently recognized for bringing to light wonderful but obscure songs and for his interpretations of standards from the Great American Songbook and musical theatre. Beverly Creasey of Cabaret Scenes: “…once in a blue moon you’re at a cabaret and you know something extraordinary is going on. De Lorenzo is at the top of his game.”
De Lorenzo is equally at home in cabaret rooms, concert halls, and theatres including venues in Boston (Scullers Jazz Club, Club Café), New York (The Metropolitan Room, The Iridium, 54 Below, Birdland, Eighty-Eight’s, Don’t Tell Mama), Provincetown (the Crown & Anchor), Chicago, San Francisco, and cruise ships in Alaska, the Mediterranean, and crossing the Atlantic. Brian has performed at the prestigious Mabel Mercer Cabaret Conventions in New York and Chicago and at three Boston Cabaret Festivals. He has appeared in IRNE and Elliot Norton Award-winning theatre productions in the Boston area including The Wild Party and On the Twentieth Century. Other theatre credits include leading roles in Next to Normal at Nextdoor Theater; A Christmas Carol at North Shore Music Theatre; Lend Me a Tenor; Assassins at Lyric Stage; Forever Plaid; and a tour of Esther in Europe. His CD “Found Treasures” was nominated for the 2000 “Recording of the Year” Award by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC).
Pianist Jean-Guy Comeau has been sharing his time between Puerto Vallarta and Montréal, Canada for the last 12 years. In his native country, he continues to accompany classical and jazz singers and has worked with the Montréal Symphony as a professional chorister for decades. He also taught music in a well-known Fine Arts Core Education school (F.A.C.E.) in Montréal for most of his career. In Puerto Vallarta, he continues to work in the music field, learning and interpreting new repertoire, mainly Mexican boleros and Broadway show tunes through different collaborations with cultural institutions such as the PV Men’s Chorus, Los Mangos Library and Cultural Center, the CECATUR Auditorium and different art galleries. He is now looking forward to participate in quality venues with American, Canadian and Mexican artists at Vallarta’s own Palm Cabaret.
