Research published by Asociación Mexicana de Internet (AMIPCI) in May 2016 reveals that internet users in Mexico will spend more time online in 2016 than they did in 2015. Users were online for 6 hours 11 minutes per day on average in 2015; that figure will reach 7 hours 14 minutes in 2016.
Internet users aren’t just spending more time online in Mexico - there are also more users, period. From 2014 to 2015, the percentage of the population who identified themselves as internet users climbed 8 percentage points, from 51% to 59%.
The previous year’s mild gain of 2 points, from 49% to 51%, suggests that internet usage may be starting to pick up across Mexico.
While total usage is up in the country, both in terms of time spent online by users and the penetration rate of users themselves, a less traditional device leads the way in terms of those used to access the internet.
Mobile is the first screen for many users: 77% of those surveyed said they used a smartphone to access the internet in April 2016, higher than the 69% who used a laptop or the 50% who used a desktop.
