A photograph of a seven-month-old baby shot dead and lying next to the bodies of his parents has prompted an outpouring of indignation in Mexico.
In a country where violent crime has reached epidemic proportions, tens of thousands have taken to social media to protest at the death of baby Marcos Miguel Pano Colón in Pinotepa Nacional.
Many have likened the tragedy to that of Alan Kurdi, the child whose dead body photographed washed up on the Turkish shore last year heightened concern for the Syrian refugee crisis.
In the photograph being circulated on the internet, the blood-spattered body of Marcos Miguel is lain on its side, with the lifeless arm of his father still wrapped around him and his mother to the other side of the baby. Streams of blood run away from the three bodies on the pavement.
The boy was apparently being carried by his father, identified as 24-year-old Juan Alberto Pano Ramos, with his 17-year-old mother, Alba Isabel Colón, when the entire family was shot dead by several gunmen outside a supermarket.
The three died on the spot on Friday.
