Five million Mexicans over 15 years old cannot read or write, figures released by the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) show today.
Maritza Ordaz, INEA delegate in Mexico City, revealed the numbers during a ceremony to deliver primary and secondary school certificates to retired and pensioned people between 65 and 83 years old.
Meanwhile, the official stressed the importance of the alliances between the institutions to extend educational services to all social sectors.
Ordaz said that alliances,organizations and work groups are being created in order to address closely these people.
The regional delegate of the institute of social security and services,Elsa Carolina Rojas, urged the group of recently graduated elders to keep preparing themselves.
