Dollar Bank Accounts Allowed Again in Mexico

Starting this week, businessmen in Baja California can open dollar bank accounts, if they demonstrate that the money comes from legitimate businesses, reported Rafael Crosthwaite Reyes, president of the Business Coordination Council of Playas de Rosarito.

The preceding was announced after a meeting in Mexico City with the Secretary of Finance. As of now, there are five bank institutions which are certified by the federal government and businessmen can make their requests to open dollar accounts, he said.

"This was an issue which we initiated, because there were difficulties and a flight of capital," added Crosthwaite Reyes, after the meeting where the presidents of the CCE of Baja California also attended.

The Suspension

Since 2010, businessmen in Baja California faced bank restrictions on dollars, he added, however the report from the Secretary of Finance will be a positive move to reactivate the economy in the sector.

Regarding the importation of used automobiles, he added they did not get a further details, however they expect progress from working groups they established.

"For importing autos, they did not specify any final resolution," he said.
